Accepting well-meaning advice is difficult for most of us. The primary reason that hearing advice can be painful, I believe, is that when we hear the advice, we add our own message that goes something like this, "You must think I'm an imbecile!" By adding that thought, we turn the advice into criticism.
So take my advice (hee hee) , if you find yourself feeling criticized when someone offers you advice, remind yourself that you have complete control over how you react to another person's words. You could say to yourself, "Oh, I didn't know that." Or this thought might be more appropriate, "Yes, I already knew that, but good ideas can never be reinforced enough."
Name some other positive thoughts that can be used to replace a feeling of being criticized.
