Share Your Knowledge – Magnification

When I was very small, not yet in school, I found my brother and a neighbor boy at the side of the house engaged in naughty behavior.  They had a magnifying glass, a bug and the power of the sun.  These young scientists were testing the theory that a bug can get hot enough to ignite under the power of a magnifying glass.  I was allowed to stay and watch, but sworn to secrecy.

We must not have had the right combination of factors, however, no flaming bug occurred.  Which is a good thing!  That was a very dangerous experiment those young boys were attempting.  We had dry weeds all around our house that could have caught on fire much easier than that hard-shelled insect.

The power of magnification is an interesting aspect of physical science.  Do you know how it works?

Observation – Letter Search

Look all around the room that you are in.  How many objects can you spot that start with the same letter as your first name?

Carl could look around the room and see candles, chairs and china that start with the first letter of his name.
