Similes are such a fun way to paint pictures with language.
I work while gazing out my window into a tree-filled lawn. Autumn in the Pacific Northwest means that many of these trees have leaves that are changing color and falling to the ground. While I was working, the wind picked up and hundreds of leaves started swirling toward the ground.
Leaves cascaded from the sky like giant golden snowflakes.
Have some fun creating your own similes. Its easy. Compare one noun (leaves) with another noun (snowflakes) using the words like or as.

Character vs Reputation
The little black and white cat that we have now became part of our family on a Friday the 13th. Alex named her Charm. When he was a lot younger, we had a little teddy bear hamster named Furry-Spike. Of course, Spike is a good name for a pet and the hamster was furry, so... Then there was the cat who was pure white except for a striped tail that stuck straight up in the air and reminded me of an industrial chimney. The poor thing was called Smokestack all her life. The Chihuahua we had when I was a child was appropriately named Dinky.
