Many things that make our lives more enjoyable (or simply more bearable) go unrecognized.  For example, who was the first to allow workers a morning and afternoon break?  When did the idea come about to carry your own roof around when it rained? (umbrella)  This one's a bit out-dated, but how about that curly phone cord that would allow you to pace while talking on the phone?
