One easily recognizable geometric property of many common shapes, is symmetry. Bi-lateral symmetry, abundantly common in nature is easy for even the youngest children to recognize. Use the items in around you to name examples of symmetry.
More experienced learners should be able to find items that have more than one line of symmetry. Reinforce the relationships between geometric shapes by naming the new shapes that are created when lines of symmetry cut through other shapes. (For example: a line of symmetry that cuts straight through a square creates two rectangles; a line of symmetry that cuts through a square from corner to corner creates two triangles.
