One of the worst fights my husband I have had in our long years of marriage came about one sweltering summer day when I came home and said to him, "You sure let the house get hot today!" I made the mistake of personally blaming him for the weather. (Well, to justify my mistake, the house would certainly have been cooler if the doors were opened and a fan had been blowing in the evening air.)
What could I have said to send the message that opening up the house would have helped it to cool down, that wouldn't have made my husband feel personally attacked?
Can you think of a personal situation where a problem escalated because of blaming?
