If you were waiting in line at the supermarket in most countries and someone crowded in front of you, you would identify that person as rude. However, there are cultures where the concept of queuing up and patiently waiting your turn never crosses one's mind. Those unable to push to the front of the line are simply out of luck.
My husband and I have always lived in the western part of the United States. When my son graduated from boot camp, we flew to Missouri to attend his ceremony. While we were there, we encountered something refreshing.
There was a section of road construction with the usual signs alerting everyone of the narrowing road ahead. To our amazement every single car moved over into the proper lane and waited their turn. We were surrounded by people who were respectful of one another even within the anonymity of their vehicles!
Wow, we thought, where are those selfish, arrogant drivers who ignore the warnings and continue passing the cars until they reach the closure and then crowd their way into line?
(By the way, if you are one of the people who let them merge, STOP IT! If everyone refused to let them in and they were stuck, this inconsiderate behavior would soon be eliminated).
I'm sure you can think of other examples where different circumstances and different cultures affect behavior.

Play a number game
Generate a discussion on how great it is to learn. Talk about things you know now, and how glad you are that you do! Positive thoughts are a habit. Help your child develop the habit of positive thinking.
Just the fact that we HAVE to do something can bring feelings of resentment. Adults can feel that way about their work, and children, certainly, can feel that way about school and learning. Periodic uplifting discussions about the positive side of education can build motivation.
However, if you child brings up the subject of how bad school is ..LISTEN! You may hear something you need to know!
