I was scraping the last of the mayonnaise out of the jar the other day and I noticed that there were raised ridges on the inside of the jar. The outside was smooth, but the inside had the ridges. What could be the purpose of those ridges?
The conclusion I drew was that the ridges made it more difficult to completely scrape the jar empty. I would be throwing away a bit of product along with the container. Not much, that is true. But multiply that little bit by the number of containers sold each year and the company has certainly made a profit on all those little dabs that end up in the trash.
What do you think? Can you name other products that make it difficult to completely empty the container before you need to buy more?
