Play A Math Game – Number Chain

Stretch your creativity in this game of unusual number relationships.  Start with any one or two-digit number and build a chain that continues using numbers that are only one or two digits.  Here is an example:

1 - 11 - 2 - 24 - 8 - 4 - 16

Here is the explanation of the chain.

  • Eleven is the starting number in both the ones and the tens place.
  • Two is the digit in the tens place added to the digit in the ones place.
  • Twenty-four is two dozen.
  • Eight is the result of multiplying the number in the tens place times the number in the ones place.
  • Four comes from dividing the two previous numbers.
  • Sixteen is four squared.

Have fun coming up with some patterns of your own.
