Applying math concepts to everyday life can help tremendously in increasing motivation to learn. Ask your children (and yourselves) how math topics do relate to everyday life.
Take rounding, for example. Think of situations where you would round numbers to the next highest or lowest multiple of ten? The first situation I think of is shopping with a limited amount of money to spend. Think of other situations.
I use rounding when I'm grocery shopping to keep track of about how much I am spending.
