Memorizing Math facts can be boring and tedious for many children. As a matter of fact, I actually believe that flashcards can be responsible for turning children off toward Math at an early age. More important than mere memorization is the ability to spot a pattern and then apply the rule for that pattern to solve similar problems. One of the simplest examples of patterns in Math would be counting by 10’s. Even the youngest Mathematician can see that counting by tens is the same as counting by ones while adding a zero to the end. What other Math patterns can your family identify? Do all the multipliers in your family know the rule of the 9’s? No? Without telling, see if they can figure it out.
