Difficulties come at us from all directions at any given moment. What is your typical response?
"Hah! That’s not going to get in my way. I can work around this problem."
Or?
"Oh, no! I give up. Why can’t anything just go my way for once?"
Here’s an example. I once knew a child who had to cope with a condition called dyslexia. A person with dyslexia has difficulty visualizing letter and number patterns. They are often terrible spellers. This child was one of the worst. In school, it was his habit to fold his arms on his desk and lay his head down during spelling tests. He was a hider!
But a few years later, with a better understanding of his condition, the hider became a fighter. He worked diligently with flashcards, sandpaper letters, and other educational tools to learn as many words as possible before the test. AND, the test became a celebration of the words that were spelled correctly instead of a lamentation of the words missed.
