Shuffle a regular deck of cards. Deal out one card to each player until all of the cards have been dealt. (Don’t worry if some of the players have an extra card.)
All players turn one card face up onto the table. The player whose card ranks highest (Ace high) wins that hand and captures all the other cards. These cards are saved, face up, for later.
If two players both have the highest ranking card, those players are engaged in a war. Each turns over one more card to determine the winner of the hand.
Whenever one player runs out of cards, he or she turns the stack of cards that have been captured earlier face down and these become the player’s new hand (do not shuffle them).
A player whose cards have all been captured is out of the game. The player who captures all the cards in the deck is the winner.
