How tall are you? The number you thought of was most likely in feet or meters. But how tall are you in paper towel rolls? Spaghetti strands? Maple leaves?
Choose five or six creative measurement tools and determine you height in those units. Now make a colorful bar graph to display your results.
Beginning learners will physically line up the items (remember height can be measured laying down) but advanced learners should do mathematical calculations to determine the new unit equivalents.
If one strand of spaghetti is 10 inches long and you are 4 feet 7 inches tall then you are 5 1/2 spaghetti strands tall.
4 feet = 48 inches
48 + 7 = 55
55 divided by 10 = 5 1/2
